Hillcrest Resource Center
Residents of public housing face numerous challenges obtaining critical resources for taking care of the basic needs and developing their skill levels. Although there are services around the city that can assist them, they lack access to these resources. WWD-F initiated the Hillcrest Resource Center (HRC) with this problem in mind. Its mission is to promote healthy living, self-sufficiency, and community wellness by assessing the needs and goals of Hillcrest residents and assisting them to build connections with appropriate community services and resources. This center, located within the Hillcrest community, increases residents’ access to supports and services, offers opportunities for self-sufficiency and education, and has the potential to improve residents’ quality of life.
The center have trained staff who connect residents with the appropriate community resources. The HRC also provides onsite classes and workshops, such as referral writing and financial management, which build up the skills of the residents. In order to assist with job searches and other information inquiries, a computer lab is maintained to give residents with access to the internet. Additionally, the HRC provides emergency assistance and resources, such as a clothing pantry, a food and other necessities pantry, and a lending library.
